HF (HIGH FREQUENCY)

Brief over view of actives on the medium and short wave bands.

Contacts on all the H.F. (High Frequency) and M.F. (Medium Frequency) bands from 160M to 10M have been established using a simple multi-band dipole antenna that is capable of operating on all HF bands including the relatively new so-called WARC bands and to a more limited extent the 160 metre band. The antenna and radio are well capable of reception across the entire spectrum from around the 1. 8 MHz up to 30 MHz with a couple of relative dead spots due the difficulty of matching some of the extreme impedances presented at the ATU, but not near amateur bands.

The solar cycle is at low point as at January 2008, however there is still good activity on the lower HF bands of 80M and 40M. The use of PSK31 has allowed me to work the world with a modest antenna system running around thirty watts on both 20M and 40M.

VK6YSF JS8Call and Olivia 8/250 operations.

Current activity is generally focused - though not restricted to - JS8Call operations on the 20m, 30m, and 40m bands.

Currently there is a particular emphasis on JS8Call on the 10 and 12 m band between 00:00 and 12:00 Z, often extending beyond this period.

Olivia 8/250 is used occasionally on the 20m band.

Proposed band and mode activity is often communicated on HamSpots: https://hamspots.net/js8/ or my profile on

X: https://x.com/vk6ysf97230 .

Feel free to contact me to discuss or arrange a schedule for a contact.
